On-site Coaching for Teachers
On-site coaching is a part of an overall 5 year-long TLE pilot project. There are two TLE workshops (one time per semester) and 5 to 6 on-site coaching sessions per academic year. For the last one year we observed 4 lessons for 4 subjects in the morning and had a coaching session after lunch based on the observation of teacher's TL based teaching. We visited 3 schools for each time.
1st On-site Coaching
20-23 July 2020
This on-site coaching session was the first follow up school visit right after the first TLE workshop for teachers. It was impressive to see some teachers put extra effort into preparing creative translanguaging activities on top of their heavy workload. 2nd On-site Coaching
7-10 September 2020
One outstanding observation point this time was teaching academic key terms in home language along with Thai, the medium of instruction.
3rd On-site Coaching
26-28 Oct & 2 Nov. 2020
From this coaching session, teachers started translanguaging writing activities. For example, students were guided to make a summary of their lesson in both home and school languages in Science class. As for Math, students were encouraged to make an applied problem both in their home and school languages.
4th On-site Coaching
16-18 Feb 2021
This on-site coaching session was the first follow-up visit after the 2nd TLE workshop held in December 2020. This time, the teachers were asked to prepare a TL unit plan and teach one lesson out of that unit that they sent us to receive feedback/comment on it from us.
5th On-site Coaching
16-18 March 2021
Most teachers submitted a TL unit plan with a TL worksheet for this on-site coaching school visit. Some teachers tried a TL reading activity. Students were guided to read a Thai text together and discussed the answer using all of their language resources to some comprehension questions given in Thai.
On-site Coaching for Thai Subject

This on-site coaching was a part of a series of consulting a PhD research project on TLE by an education supervisor. She hopes to implement translanguaging pedagogy in the middle and high schools that she supervises after completing her research.
